I Get So Lonely,Life In Magazines
The Collage from my poject titled I Get So Lonely, Life In Magazines.
“I get so lonely, life in magazines” focuses on images found in fashion magazines, advertisements and Internet with the aim to juxtapose, compare, highlight and establish connections between them. The primary focus are images of men as I have developed a complex relationship with those representations through my life. For me masculinity was never a comfortable idea and I felt left out of that conversation due to my queer identity. As a teenager, in the lack of real life representations I got fascineted with the ones I found in publications. I am revisiting the most fragile period of my life with the aim to redefine what masculinity means to me.
With the collages my interest was to explore the magazines as objects, focusing on the material aspect as well as the content. I would- glue the pages and then tear them down one by one either with my hands or a knife. The amount of images produced for these publi- cations is massive, it is almost impossible to memorize a single image due to the
overall mass. That relationships between that massiveness and singularity made me think about the image itself. How it’s made, used and consumed. They all seem to have a predetermined life cycle. My aim was to comment on that cycle and to express the fragility I felt while working with them. For me the collages feel like they are dissolving.
